For years,
washdown duty indicated a relatively standard product with the addition of
some epoxy paint and perhaps improved shaft seals. While demonstrating a marked improvement over standard
industrial product, it fell far short of the requirement for GMP (Good
Manufacturing Practice) as practiced in the pharmaceutical and bio-tech
industries. In early 1988, while
manager of a R&D engineering group within a Biologics company, our
company founder and chief engineer realized that “somebody should be making
stainless steel motors for this industry”.
Stainless Motors, Inc. was therefore incorporated in 1988 to specifically address the
lack of suitable stainless steel, sanitary, washdown tolerant power
transmission equipment available to the processing industries. Operating from
an austere 2,000 sq-ft leased industrial unit, with machinery purchased at
auction, initial products were limited to stainless steel electric motors
from 1/2 HP to 20 HP. Demand and
subsequent growth was immediate and the company soon introduced several
models of stainless steel gearmotors and reducers. Centrifugal pump adapters, flexible couplings and portable
pump carts followed over the next several years.
In 2003, after
four plant expansions with no further room to grow, we began the search for a
new location. The decision was
made to leave the Los Angeles Area and build a brand new building in a
developing industrial park near Albuquerque, New Mexico, 800 miles to the East. The move to the new facility was
accomplished in 2004.
Our new
facility is nearly three times the size of the former location, with plenty
of land to more than double yet again.
We have modern late-model CNC machine tools and excellent conventional
machinery as well. Manufacturing
philosophy has always been to do as much in-house as possible, and we are now
producing all of our planetary gear sets in our well-equipped gear
department.
With over 300
standard electric motor models, 60 gearmotors, centrifugal pump adapters,
flexible couplings, and complete turn-key portable pump systems, Stainless Motors, Inc. is by far the most knowledgeable, most experienced and most
capable manufacturer of stainless steel sanitary power transmission
equipment. Although still relatively small in size, we have shipped more
quality stainless steel power transmission equipment than all other electric
motor companies combined. |
