"Washdown duty" and other industry terminology refers to equipment which has been designed or optimized to better withstand repeated cleanings or washdowns with large amounts of water and cleaning chemicals, often under high pressure. Initially, this meant relatively standard equipment, painted with white epoxy paint. The equipment looks clean and sanitary when new, yet after relatively short service, the epoxy coating begins to flake off and corrosion immediately follows. Soon the equipment displays significant coating loss, corrosion, and a general unsanitary condition. Serious quality and product contamination issues arise if the affected equipment is located above the product zone. For this reason, both FDA and USDA inspectors have cited plants for painted equipment over product zones.

At Stainless Motors, Inc., all our product is produced in corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Our motors, gearmotors, pump adapters, and couplings are available in T304 standard, with T316 or any other stainless alloy as an option.  Incorporated in 1988 specifically to provide the processing industries with sanitary stainless steel power transmission equipment, we have the widest selection of stainless steel motors and gearmotors available anywhere.  Our products are designed to solve the most difficult problems and are 100% Engineered, Manufactured, and Supported in the USA.

We offer the widest standard selection in our Pharmaceutical Series Motors. Standard NEMA frames, as well as, IEC Frames are offered in this series. For motors up to 2 HP, single phase, 60 Hz, 115/230V configurations are available. Pharmaceutical Series motors are offered in a variety of NEMA frame sizes up to 30 HP or IEC frame sizes up to 15 kW. JM frames are also available in our Pharmaceutical Series up to 30 HP. These motors offer a #4 line finish of casing, endbells, and junction box; as well as, a mirror polished fan shroud for the ultimate in cleanability. Both Blind-Tapped and Thru-Hole Foot mounts are available, as well as footless, as seen on our Pharmaceutical Series Motor Page. Winding core lengths are increased and thermostats included to provide 4:1 constant torque and 10:1 variable torque inverter turndown service. Our Food Processing Series Motors are optimized for the requirements of the Food Processing Industry. The motors are offered standard in T304 stainless steel with a #2B finish. These motors range from 1/2 HP to 10 HP in two-pole (3450 RPM) and four-pole (1725 RPM) configurations. Standard motors are offered as 60 Hz, 3 phase, 208-230/460 V. This series of motor is offered with the Thru-hole mounting foot, or footless, as pictured on our Food Processing Series Motor Page.
